You wake up to a darkness that is unmeasurable. The ground is hard and texture less and cold enough to make you shiver. Goosebumps encompass your body. You have trouble telling whether your eyes are open or closed.
As you stammer to get up, your foot slips, “SHPLOSH”, into a puddle of who knows what. Unable to see what this mystery liquid is, you immediately determine that it is not water due to its viscosity. Whatever is now on your foot STINKS. You put your hand down to feel for where the ground ends and the puddle begins. Tracing your hand along the shoreline of the puddle, you find yourself back where you started, a full 360 degrees. “Oh no” shoots through your mind as you realize whatever this is and where ever you are, you are stuck on a small island, circled by a thick and stinky substance, unable to see anything.
“Hello?”. You hear a whisper in your right ear.
You shout back, “HELLO! PLEASE HELP ME!”. Adrenaline rushes through your body. The thought of someone else being near both reassures and scares you. Is this person a friend or foe?
You hear it again, “Hello?”, this time in your left ear.
Before you have the chance to shout in response again, the lights turn on with a “WHOOSH”. Your pupils cannot dilate fast enough for you to see who is talking, the lights are too blinding.
“HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE 255th ANNUAL ALIEN TINY ISLAND SURVIVAL CHALLENGE”, you hear through what has to be the loudest speakers ever invented. Your eyes finally focus and you see a stadium full of undistinguishable life forms facing you and other undistinguishable life forms on their own little islands surrounded by a sea of a brown liquid.
“255Th annual alien wha..” you begin to think to yourself before a floating metal sphere whizzes around your head, disrupting you train of thought, and stops a few feet out above the sea of brown.
The metal sphere begins to talk with perfect English. You can’t help but notice how shiny the sphere is, catching a glimpse of your reflection on its metallic curves.
“Hello earthling”, the metal ball exclaims. “Do you wish to participate in the annual alien tiny island survival challenge?”
- You say “I was born for this.”
A few moments pass and the metal ball begins to shake uncontrollably. A screen that you did not notice before turns on and shows a countdown. “10, 9, 8…” With each second the ball shakes faster. You take a few steps back in preparation for whatever is about to happen, but you don’t have much space on your island and your foot slips back into the thick brown liquid.
The ball continues to progressively shake faster and faster until the countdown reaches “1”.
You feel vibrations from under the liquid that make you think only one thing could have happened…
You emerge from the liquid to a large purple figure with tentacles for arms now occupying your island. It stretches a tentacle out to what else could have been a friendly gesture to help you out of the very stinky and thick sea that you have found yourself submerged in.
